About the Participant
Aishamanne Williams
Aishamanne Williams is a filmmaker, writer and photographer from Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from The New School, where she explored a multidisciplinary approach to storytelling. Her thesis work included a short film called 'A Smaller Sun' that was a meditation on black childhood and heaven, and an ongoing project called Hoodwear Diaries that focuses on hip-hop culture and streetwear through a zine, photo series and short film. The aim of her work is to document and honor Blackness in its richness and infinite possibility. She pulls inspiration from growing up as a Caribbean person in NYC to inform her cultural approach to documentation and storytelling. Her film practice is centered on pouring into a living, omnipresent archive of Black culture through the lens of her experience and identity, and creating a space for Black people to dream—about the past and future, the living and the dead, pain and pleasure, the spiritual and the physical.
